Republican Association of Serbia to help people with autism in collaboration with the Centre for Society Orientation - COD, in the kooperacionog project "International promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities" (Disability Rights Promotion International - Drpi) opened a regional center for monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities in East Europe. Regional Center is located within the Office of COD. Regional Center will Drpi the work to build global capacity for monitoring the human rights of persons with disabilities.
The regional center is supported by Small Swedish Agency for International Development - AIDS. Regional Center for Monitoring the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is an important step in the field of monitoring the rights of people with, focusing on finding the facts in three key areas:
  1. Individual experiences of people with disabilities;
  2. Taken systematic measures to protect and promote the rights of persons with disabilities (laws, regulations, programs) as well as what happens in legal cases
  3. Media coverage of topics and descriptions of disability.
Monitoring the situation in these three areas is important to raise awareness of discrimination based on disability and negative impact it has on the lives of people with disabilities, because the facts in each of these three key areas give us a part of the story, but, when combined, they provide a complete picture of discrimination based on disability.
