Center for the orientation of society - COD, in partnership with the National Association of Serbia for Autism and York University in Toronto, Canada opened a regional center for monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities in Eastern Europe. The center is part of a global project to promote the field of disability rights (Disabillity Right Promotion International - Drpi) which is implemented in 5 regions around the world. The official presentation was held at the Regional Centre 10.12.2010. the Media Center. How to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities more than declarative and ad hoc approach, monitoring rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is a comprehensive approach to human rights disability which recognizes that people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else. This approach emphasizes the way in which discrimination on the basis of disability increases the sensitivity of the issue of abuse, poverty and other unjust social conditions. We are confident that this project will allow better cooperation between governments and civil society on issues of global invalidnosti.Direktori project are Dr. Bengt Lindkvist, UN Special Rapporteur on Disability 1994-2002, and Dr. Marcia H. Riou, professor and director of graduate programs (Critical Disability Studies) at York University, Toronto, Canada. The regional center was opened with support from the Swedish International Development Agency - SIDA, through a global project of promotion of disability rights.
